First Date
The way the wind blew that day
Gently
Almost sneakily
Through the trees
And across the picnickers' rugs
Seemed terribly fitting
And so too, the way the sunlight
Glanced over the park
Peeking past the smattering of clouds above
Illuminating each blade of grass
And warming the hearts of the young boys
Who could be found running about
Kicking their football
Or playing frisbee
The birds singing from their branches
Accompanied by the distant hum of a lawnmower
Provided a felicitous soundtrack
For a summer's day
At the park with you
And the gentle way your lips brushed against mine
Your fingers meshed with mine
And your eyes looked into mine
Made everything
Perfect
