Putting the 'man'...Putting the 'man' back in EmmanuelPutting the 'man'...
Can you imagine him When nobody else was around
In those quiet moments Where he had a brief opportunity To put his sandaled feet up Or to snack upon a fig or two
It is hard to think of him Without also envisioning A cohort of loyal disciples and skeptics alike Flanking him from either side Unendingly pandering him with questions And requests for miracles
The Gospel writers never talked about The 'private Christ' The man he was behind closed doors When he had time to gather

First DateFirst DateFirst Date
The way the wind blew that day Gently Almost sneakily Through the trees
And across the picnickers' rugs Seemed terribly fitting
And so too, the way the sunlight Glanced over the park Peeking past the smattering of clouds above Illuminating each blade of grass And warming the hearts of the young boys Who could be found running about Kicking their football Or playing frisbee
The birds singing from their branches Accompanied by the distant hum of a lawnmower Provided a felicitous soundtrack For a su

Storming the BastilleStorming the BastilleStorming the Bastille
We gather outside the Hotel de Ville The air is thick with anger The crowd masses A loud bell tolls behind me
To Arms, Citizens! Shrieks a voice Followed by a deafening roar As if from the belly of the revolution itself
We march to the Bastille The King's dungeon The symbol of hated despotism
No one can stop us now
I think to myself De Launay's head will roll We will free the innocent We will restore the balance of the Nation Unyielding, we will take what it rightfully ours

PoemPoem By James ButchersPoem
The poem begins in a rather mundane fashion The kind that lets you know something is about to happen That there is going to be
A beginning A middle And an end
You look to the second stanza Casting your eyes across the lines on the page As you begin to settle into the rhythm of the thing And you try to get an idea of the mood of the poem And begin to imagine what might happen later on
As you continue to read And the poet draws you further in Tempting you with his clever use of idiom Imagery
